教材分析:The listening material is a dialogue of making a phone order. It requires Ss to finish Mable Wangs  order form. In the notes, students should fill in items of some office supplies like their  No., quantity, price each and total, which are all numbers. It not only exercises Ss ability to catch the key information while listening but also helps them review the numerals that they have learned in Unit 2. Before listening, teachers should help students to understand the listening text by guiding them to read the purchase order and teaching the difficult words.

     In Speak up, students should talk about a useful  invention to their family and themselves in their daily life, including its name, its usage, its frequency of use, and its importance in groups.

 

 

学情分析:Students in Class 2, Grade 8 are active but easily distracted by other things and cant focus on what teachers say. Whats worse, they lack necessary listening skills to catch key information while listening. Therefore, before listening the numerals that that have been taught in unit 2 should be reviewed. In order to lessen Ss difficulty in listening we should also help them to understand the table and learn the difficult words, get them prepared for the listening process.

教学目标:By the end of the class, my students will be able to...

catch the key number to fill in the notes of a phone order while listening;

know how to describe products when they make a phone order;

talk about the most useful invention-computer;

get more interested in modern machines and scientific technology.

. Greeting

     T: Class begins. Good morning, class.

     S: Good morning, Miss Lin.

     T: Sit down, please.

. Warming-up

Have a free talk with students on the following questions by showing them some pictures.

     T: Ok. At the beginning of the class, Ill check whether your history is good. Can you tell me how do people go shopping nowadays and how did people go shopping in the past?

     S1: 上网。

     S2: 去超市。

     S3:  ...

     T: Ok. Look at the pictures. what did people use to buy something?

     S: 粮票。

     T:  Yeah. They went shopping with oil tickets, rice tickets and so on. And what about nowadays? We use...

     S: money

     T: Yes. We use money, credit card to buy things and also we can pay online, right?

     S: Yes.

     T: Where do we usually go shopping?

     S: in the supermarket.

     T: Very good. We shop in the supermarket. What else?

     S4: shop online.

     S5: shop on wechat.

     S6: ...

     T: Quite good. And do you know we can also shop on the phone? Do you know how to shop on the phone? 你们知道怎么在电话上购物吗?

     T: At first you should make a phone order? phone order, what does it mean?

     S: 电话订购。

     T: 对了。电话订购,我们首先要下订单。而今天我们要听的这篇听力材料就是关于电话订购的。

. Pre-listening

1. Teach the new words in the text: a phone order, top, company, number, No., quantity, price, total, grand total.

2. Explain the listening text.

T: Look at the title. Can you tell me who is making a phone order?

S: Mable Wang.

T: From which company is he from?

S: Hi-Lo Company.

T: Very good. Look at the picture.  What is she ordering? That means what does she want to buy?

S: CD, A4 paper, monitor

T: Very good. Ok. Look at the table. 看到这个表格。里面记录了这个人她想要买什么。我们在听的时候主要需要抓住什么信息?

S: No.

T: 对。No. 也就是商品的型号。What else? 还有呢?

S7: Quantity(数量).

S8: Price each.

T: Very well. Price each. 单价。最后是?

S: total.

T: 对了,总额。这件商品的总额,假设我们听的过程中没有听到,可不可以通过前面的数量和单价算出来?

S: 可以。

. While-listening

1. Play the recording twice and ask Ss to fill in the table.

2. Let Ss  check their answers in pairs.

. Post-listening

1. Check the answers of each blank.

2. Do an interview in the class: Is computer the most important invention to you and your family?

T: OK. Now I would like to do an interview among you. Do you have a computer at home?

S: Yes/No.

T: Ok. Most say yes. So can you tell me how often do you use your computer?

S: I use my computer every day./I use my computer once/twice/three times...a week.

T: Very good. And what do you usually do on the computer?你们平时都用电脑来做什么呢?(lead Ss to say the phrases with some pictures)

S: play computer games, do some shopping, write emails, chat with friends, listen to music, read news, look for useful information...

T: So how can we answer the question What do you usually do on the computer? 

S: I usually play computer games (do some shopping...) on the computer.

T: Ok. Lets go on. Another  questions for you. How much time do you spend on playing computer games every week?

S: I spend two hours...

T: 花费时间做某事。How to say?

S: spend...in...

T: Yes. Thats right. 花费时间做某事,用spend sometime in doing something. 花费钱在某物上,我们要用spend some money on something. 我每个星期花两个小时玩电脑游戏。How to translate this sentence?

S: I spend two hours playing computer games every week.

T: Very good. And you had better not spend too much time in playing computer games, right? You can use it to help your study? Do you use your computer for study?

S: yes.

T: How do you use the computer to help your study

S: I use the computer to look for useful information.

. Reserved activities

  Let Ss  practice the dialogue in pairs.

A: Do you have a computer at home?

B: Yes.

A: How often do you use your computer?

B: I use my computer every day./I use my computer once/twice/three times...a week.

    A: What do you usually do on your computer?

B: I usually...(play computer games, do some shopping, write emails, chat with friends, listen to music, read news, look for useful information...) on the computer.

A: How much time do you spend on playing computer games every week?

B: Usually I spend ...(two/three/... minutes/hours) in playing computer games.

A: Do you use the computer for your study?

B: Yes./No.

A: How do you use the computer to help your study?

To lead Ss into the topic Make a phone order today by comparing the way people went shopping in the past and go shopping today.

教学反思This class was composed of  Pre-listening, While-listening and Post-listening. The whole procedure was almost complete. During the Warming-up, I compared the differences between how people went shopping in the past and how people go shopping nowadays to naturally lead in a new way of shopping-making a phone order. Then  I explained the listening text and taught the new words before playing the recording. Therefore most students were able to finish the listening task correctly, which reflected the importance of building a scaffolding for students before listening. During the while-listening, students were asked to listen to the tape twice, first time for catching the numbers to fill in  the blanks and second time for checking the spelling, form and grammar.  During this process, students got to know how to make a phone order. In post-listening, I focused on improving Ss spoken English-talking about a useful invention in their daily life. Taking Ss realistic level into consideration, I divided the dialogue into several questions. In the form of interview, I led Ss to give answers to each question. The question What do you usually do on the computer  was the point of this class. So I spent more time letting Ss come up with as many phrases as  possible with the hint of my pictures.

     There definitely exists some shortcomings for my class. For improvement, firstly, after finishing the listening task, students could be asked to reproduce the dialogue of the listening material according to the completed notes. Secondly, I had better remind my students of paying attention to the polite usage of phone discourse. Finally, in the post-listening part, I did an interview in the class on one of the most useful invention-computer, which made the speaking task easier for them but might confine Ss thinking.
